Summers Strategies has always had deep roots in Nevada, which is why we are thrilled to announce the opening of a new office in Las Vegas. While we are based in Washington, DC, Nevada issues, candidates and campaigns have always been a big part of our strategic communications and marketing work. Summers Strategies’ work in Nevada currently centers on politics, clean energy development, gun violence prevention, gaming and tourism.
In addition to our new downtown Las Vegas office, Summers Strategies is excited to announce that highly respected communicator and community activist Launce Rake has also joined our team of media relations and strategic communications professionals.
As a former journalist who has worked for the Las Vegas Sun and Las Vegas CityLife, among other newspapers, Launce knows Nevada inside and out. As a writer and reporter, he has covered politics in the Caribbean, commodities in South America, the loosening of the U.S.-Cuban travel and trade embargo, and all levels of Nevada government. Launce is also a former spokesman for the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN) and has worked with a number of nonprofit groups and community organizations.
Our founder, Jon Summers, is a former TV news journalist who worked with KLAS before moving to Democratic politics and serving as communications director for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and the senator’s against-all-odds 2010 reelection campaign. Since leaving the Senate, Jon has been building campaigns and developing strategic messaging for national trade associations, nonprofits, corporations, elected officials and political candidates.
Phoebe Sweet, Summer Strategies’ Vice President, is a former reporter for the Las Vegas Sun, spokeswoman for the Nevada State Democratic Party, and director of speechwriting at the Center for American Progress.
“I moved to Nevada in 1999 and even though I moved away a few years ago, it has always been home to me,” said Summers. “Summers Strategies has worked on behalf of Nevada issues and organizations from day one and that work only continues to grow. We look forward to doing even more to help organizations and progressive candidates and elected officials succeed in their work to strengthen Nevada.”
