OnPoint’s founder, Jon Summers, leverages his 20 years of unmatched experience to design proactive, innovative and effective communications strategies. As the Communications Director for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Jon served as Reid’s chief spokesman and ran communications for Reid’s against-all-odds 2010 reelection campaign. After leaving the Senate, Jon began building campaigns and developing strategic messaging for trade associations, nonprofits, corporations, elected officials and political candidates.
In addition, Jon crafted messaging and provided counsel to the ballot issue committee For Maryland Jobs and Schools, which was successful in passing a state ballot initiative to increase school funding by expanding gaming. Some of the clients Jon has provided strategic messaging counsel to include the American Academy of Family Physicians, the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, the American Gaming Association, Compassion Over Killing and organizations promoting the Common Core State Standards for education.
Jon was tapped to work for Sen. Reid after working for the Nevada State Democratic Party and the Democratic Governors Association. Jon started in political communications after working for nearly a decade as a television journalist in Phoenix and Las Vegas, where he covered some of the biggest political stories and court cases in Nevada history.
